So, I tested popular apps with VR workouts like Supernatural, Litesport, Xponential+, FitXR, and Les Mills XR Bodycombat. The Supernatural VR app combined beautiful surroundings with full-body workoutsI worked out while wearing my Meta Quest 3 VR headset. The app's music library set it apart from the other VR workout apps I've tried, many of which didn't have recognizable songs. Many of the workout apps I tried tapped into my competitive drive by creating a video-game-like environment. The next time I feel unmotivated to work out, I might try a VR exercise app.

Gallup sampled 2,271 Gen Zers ages 12 through 26 at the end of November 2023. Related storiesThe places where Gen Z finds purpose — school and work — are becoming more elusive for some as the rate of "disconnected youths" rises. Just six in 10 Gen Zers responded that they always or often feel their life has direction, with feelings of significance and purpose lower among older Gen Zers. This drop was most pronounced for Gen Z employees — down six percentage points from last quarter — who increasingly feel less connected to their company's culture.

Dogs can match some words with objects, study suggests

CNN —Dogs can understand that certain words refer to specific objects, according to a recent study, suggesting that they may understand words in a similar way to humans. As the study’s lead authors, they devised an experiment in which 18 dog owners said words for objects their dogs already knew. They said that the resulting brain activity was the same as those produced by humans in similar experiments. Researchers measured the dogs' brain activity. Previous experiments testing dogs’ understanding of nouns had involved them fetching specific objects when asked, according to a statement released by the Eötvös Loránd University.

So now, rather than staying up to date with current events, my patients are withdrawing as much as possible from the news. Withdrawing from political information or solicitations is an active stance as contrasted with the more common idea of disengagement or apathy, which is a passive stance. Their sense of purpose comes from maintaining an active stance of withdrawal as a silent protest against a system that feels broken and unfair. Having a sense of agency is better for mental health than acquiescence, but it can be tricky to find the line between being informed versus overwhelmed. However, developing a sense of purpose is a more effective antidote to despair than active withdrawal.

Holiday burnout is a term that describes "the mental, physical, and emotional exhaustion that someone can experience during or after the holiday season," Michelle Felder, founder and CEO of Parenting Pathfinders, told Insider. It's important to be proactive since burnout can lead to lasting changes in how your body responds to stress. For advice, I asked therapists about the signs of holiday burnout and what you can do to prevent it from ruining the festivities. With repeated and prolonged exposure to stress, your body has a harder time recovering from the fight or flight response. When you're constantly rushed, it can be challenging to "enjoy holiday activities and events that you used to look forward to," Appleton said.

After nearly two years of combat in Ukraine, Russia's air force is still largely intact. If Russia's air force can't perform that mission, Russian ground forces will continue to struggle. A New York Times report detailed how Ukrainian soldiers are coping with the mental trauma of war. One soldier who has nightmares said he saw evacuation vehicles mistakenly drive over wounded soldiers. "I remember the faces of all our dead comrades," another Ukrainian soldier told the Times. The sergeant, 28-year-old Vladyslav Ruziev, was among the Ukrainian soldiers who told the Times they were traumatized by what they'd seen in the ongoing war with Russia. The lack of progress and the number of wounded Ukrainian soldiers have started to take a toll on the country's morale, The Washington Post reported last week.

A Ukrainian described losing his leg to a land mine while speaking with The Washington Post. He was one of several to express a relatively rare note of despondency in the war against Russia. Ruslan Proektor, 52, told the outlet in a report published Thursday that he lost his leg this summer after stepping on a Russian mine. "They are taking everyone and sending them to the front line without proper preparation," he told the Post. Other people who spoke with The Washington Post also deviated from the prevailing Ukrainian sentiment of unity and defiance, citing the disappointing counteroffensive as a cause of their fading hopes.

I started my blog, "I'm Sweaty And I Know It," where I wrote about exercise, health, recipes, and mental health. One of my first viral TikTok workouts was called "Not in the mood to workout, try this workout for unmotivated days." I made money through YouTube adsWhen I reached 1,000 subscribers on YouTube, I started making money from AdSense. Launching a paid-for app was dauntingI felt that too many YouTube workouts had clickbait headlines about losing weight. I was terrified that no one would subscribe because they'd been used to my free workout classes.

By the 1960s, the idea developed into that of the “space elevator,” a transport system consisting of a cable attached to the earth’s surface near the Equator, anchored by a counterweight out beyond geosynchronous orbit. Though popular with science fiction writers and the longer-haired kind of engineer, space elevators remain theoretical. In “Counterweight,” by the pseudonymous Korean science fiction writer Djuna, nanotubes are part of the intellectual property of the sprawling, multinational LK corporation. Caught up in the dragnet is a hapless midlevel LK employee called Choi Gangwu, who is in regular contact with one of the Liberation Front’s agents. Detained by the company for his involvement with the resistance, Choi is instructed to meet his contact, who he appears to believe is just a fellow butterfly enthusiast.

Turn the lens inwardIf you suspect someone in your ranks is quitting quietly, Thompson recommends that you first consider the possibility that you could be misreading their behavior. Managers set the tone for their teams, Thompson says. In fact, that's why it's not a bad idea to ask your team to work on this document before any new issues arise. And if your efforts to reenergized a disengaged employee fail, Thompson says, the issue may end up correcting itself. "If you have an engaged workplace, whoever is quietly checked out probably won't want to be around.

By aggressively hiking interest rates, the Fed has sought to introduce some slack into a tight labor market. Inflation remains high, but now it’s also far more expensive to take out loans or pay off credit cards. Wages are up, but not enough to take the sting off high prices of necessities like food, fuel and shelter. Economists will get fresh insight into the state of inflation next week with the October CPI reading on Thursday. But if there’s good news in that report, it will have come two days too late to sway voters one way or another.
